Most persons with autism require lifelong support in significant aspects of their daily life such as self-care, financial or in their vocation and employment. With extended family systems in India fast disappearing, society provides no viable alternative support mechanisms for persons with autism when they lose their caregivers and are on their own. Specialist residential centres, that can provide this support when parents are no longer there or are unwell, are barely existent. The worry of “What after us?” haunts most parents.
Here lies the need of separate and safe Residential facilities. Many studies emphasized on the importance of the learning environment for autistic children, but none have focused on the idea of inclusive and universal design in houses which also plays a vital role in their happy and safe living.
Hence BHABNA has conceived the project ANANDA ASHRAM, an exclusive residential project for persons with Autism (Child/Adult), with lifelong care and meaningful engagement. Initally we are aiming to serve 20 to 30 residents (may expand in future), and towards this purpose has acquired ~10 acres of land beside Raghunathpur-Malandighi road in Kanksa block, Paschim Bardhaman District.
Purpose of creating community where children and adults with autism will live a life of safety security and dignity in the residential project with lifelong care and meaningful engagement.
The BHABNA shall create and provide the necessary infrastructure and environment conductive for an adult with autism as per their needs in ensuring a quality life for the entire family of the child/adult with autism and also for the adult in later life in his /her old age.
The facility will have round-the-clock professional security staff manning all entry and exit.
